A lawsuit was filed on behalf of sex abuse victims and parents of children who attend Catholic schools. The suit comes on the heels of a scathing grand jury report that uncovered the rape and sexual abuse of over 1,000 children by 301 Catholic priests. Some of the names of priests have been redacted in the report.
The lawsuit seeks to force each diocese to meet its mandatory reporting obligations by giving the names of all clergy suspected of abuse to law enforcement. The lawsuit alleges the Catholic dioceses created a policy of secrecy and discouragement of reporting, failed to comply with its mandatory statutory reporting obligations, and concealed facts of the sexual abuse.
